President's Message

As we start the "Enrolled Agents Holiday Season",I would like to take a moment and remind you all that we have the best jobs ever. There are not many jobs out there that you can make a good portion of your income in a short period of time. As things get crazy busy and sometimes a little out of hand, we need to remember that in 2 and ½ months we can catch our breath and take a nice vacation. With the economy in the state that it is, our clients need our services more than ever so do not get discouraged if you see a little drop off you will see a bigger pickup in the long term. Do not let yourselves get over loaded and remember that sleep and an occasional day off is most necessary.  Good luck to you all and I will look forward to seeing you all at the April luncheon.

Turn on Your Radio : EA Radio Ad on KLIV

MSEA is sponsoring a 60 minute radio ad on KLIV (1590 AM News Radio).  The ad will provide tax payers with information on Enrolled Agents and direct them to a web page where they can search for an EA by zip code and/or specialty.

The radio ad will air 5 times a day every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from February 1 to March 26.  At least one ad will air during the prime commute time of 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  The remainder will be aired through the day.

If your tax practice information is not currently listed on the CSEA website consider listing it now, it is free for members.  Log onto the CSEA website and select "My Information" from the Members Area tab at the top of the page.  Enter your information and indicate "yes" when asked if you want to participate in "Find an EA".  The web page for the KLIV ad will draw from the CSEA member information.

Do you do any New York Tax returns?

You need to apply for a license from New York to be able to prepare these returns even if you only prepare one New York State tax return.

For more information go to:  http://www.nystax.gov/tp/tpreg.htm

NYSSEA and NAEA are aware of the issue and are fighting to get the law overturned or at least to get EAs exempt from the registration process.

It takes about 20 minutes to go through the process of registering online.

If you would like more information you can look at your December 18, 2009 e@lert from NAEA.

2010 Education Preview

What's in the works for tax classes in 2010?

Watch for our upcoming mini seminar series in Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay.  Our class selections this year will include an S-Corporate class where we will actually walk you through filling out the forms in detail.  We also plan to offer classes on the undocumented worker and filing their returns, Ponzi schemes, stock issues, and whatever hot topic comes out of the tax season.

Our full day seminar will concentrate on collection representation; the instructor will run the class through simulated collection cases ranging from a simple installment arrangement to getting a client designated as currently non collectible to an Offer in Compromise with Appeals!

Again we will hold the SEE class for EA exam candidates in San Jose and the 60hour Basic class in San Jose, Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area.

Of course to start 2011 off with a bang we will offer the 2011 Annual Update with Claudia Hill and Vicki Mulick.
