PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

For those who attended the retreat that was held on Friday July 24, 2009 thank you. For those who did not I would like to let you know that it was a very productive meeting.

The goal was to set forth plans and gather ideas on how MSEA can be more successful and offer more benefits to its members. One of the ideas that came out of the meeting was plans to make our website more beneficial to our members.

We are starting a referral classified section on the website and ask that all members participate. For a negligible fee you can list yourself under the specialties that you practice. This is a two fold item it allows you to let others know what you do and also gives you a place to find a fellow member to recommend to your client when an issue comes along in an area that you do not work.

As I have said we all have a certain area of specialty one that we truly like to work in so this is your opportunity to let all of us know what that area is.

I would like to take this time to remind you that we have other events coming up.  Do not forget about the educational offerings including our annual "minis" and an all day event on mortgage interest deduction and debt forgiveness. For more information go to the MSEA website and look at the "See What's HOT" link as well as the "Educational Events" link. Remember the educational events are being offered at different times and dates in Monterey as well as Santa Clara.

One last note for those of you who prepared form 7004 extensions for pass through entities such as partnerships and trusts, beginning with 2008 tax year they are now a 5 month extension and not 6 month so those returns are also do September 15th.

I Look forward to seeing you all at the August luncheon August 18, 2009 when we will welcome the CSEA president David Shaw he will be speaking on "Retirement Plans & Taxes or is that Death & Taxes?"

Alan L Pinck EA
President MSEA 2009-2010
